Memphis Roar will be sending two guys down to the 35233 area code for the Old Spice High School Showcase at Bartow Arena tonight. The feature game, which will be shown on ESPN2 at 8:00pm CST, will be a highly anticipated matchup between ESPNU 100’s #2 and #4 overall players in the 2009 recruiting class.
Derrick Favors, ranked #2 by ESPNU, is a 6′9″ 220lbs power forward from Atlanta, GA. His South Atlanta High School team will be going up against Demarcus Cousins (#4 by ESPNU), a 6′10″ 265lbs C, and his Leflore Rattlers.
As expected (and as we predicted on Tuesday), Favors announced last night on ESPNU that he will be attending Georgia Tech next season. Cousins’ current recruiting situation is well documented and there is no need to cover the entire saga here. We do know for sure that coaches from Memphis and NC State will be in the house tonight to watch Cousins play. We spoke with Otis Hughley this morning and were told that Kansas State and Wake Forest coaches may be in the house as well. Memphis, NC State, Kansas State, Washington and Wake Forest are the schools that Cousins has listed as his top five; with an indication that UAB is still a possibility.

Bass Pro Tournament of Champions
In addition to our coverage of tonight’s Old Spice Showcase, our affiliate (TheShiver.com) will have coverage of the Bass Pro Tournament of Champions Friday night and possibly Saturday. Two potential future Memphis point guards are some of the featured players in this events. John Wall and Word of God will have the possibility of being matched up against Joe Jackson and the Spartans of White Station.
