Cousins and Davis

This is for those of you who are salivating on a daily basis wanting more updates on Demarcus Cousins. After Leflore’s beat-down of Spanish Fort, 87-42,  Cousins filled in a crowd of writers who surrounded him like he was an ice cream truck on a hot August afternoon.

According to Cousins, who was recently named a McDonald’s All-American, his list now consists of six schools: Memphis, LSU, North Carolina State, Washington, Kansas State and Rice. Half of those schools had someone at the game, including LSU coach Trent Johnson.

“UAB is out of the picture, but Davis isn’t…yet,” said Cousins.

That’s because Davis is thought to be a candidate for the Alabama job, and Cousins explained that if Davis were hired in Tuscaloosa, “I’d basically have to start all over.”

According to our sources, Davis is not the front-runner for the position. A lot of speculation was tossed around about Davis being fired at mid-semester when UAB’s academic problems hit the proverbial ‘fan’. That talk was quickly doused when the Alabama Board of Trustees refused to let UAB fire Davis on account of his buy-out. The coach we are currently being told is the front-runner is former UAB coach and current Missouri coach Mike Anderson. Reportedly, a figure of roughly $2.5 million per year from Alabama has been floated Anderson’s way to see how much interest he has in the UA job.

Cousins claimed he doesn’t have any favorites. Otis Hughley, Leflore’s head coach, says he probably won’t until he gets a chance to visit some of the schools after the season ends, which could be very soon. Cousins and Leflore take on a 29-2 Eufaula team today at 10:40am in the third round of the AHSAA Class 5A State Playoffs.

** Side note: Eric Bledsoe’s Parker High School team will be facing off against Woodlawn High School today  for the fifth time this season. According to a source in Birmingham, coaches from Duke (Coach K), Florida (assistant) and Tennessee (Bruce Pearl) will be at the games today at Jacksonville State.
