How fitting is it that last Friday, former Kentucky head coach Billie Gillespie spoke these words in a press conference last Friday? “Tough times never last, but tough people do.” Memphis fans…officials…boosters…it’s time to pick yourselves up off the ground. Adios Tigers, Hello Wildcats

It appears as thought John Calipari has finally ended this ordeal. Just minutes ago, MemphisRoar was able to confirm that Calipari, his family and all but one assistant coaches just left his house on the Galloway Golf Course in a total of three SUV’s. According to our sources, they are headed to the Memphis Airport where a private jet is slated to leave at 5:15 CDT for Lexington, KY. We will continue to update this story as we learn more.

Stalemate Still Going Strong

The phones have been very busy all morning and all we can say is that we are doing our best to keep phone calls, text messages and emails active until we figure out what’s really going on with this situation. The most recent correspondence has the entire staff waiting at the Athletic Office Building waiting for Cal to come in and inform them of his decision. It was implied in this message that the assistants would be remaining with Cal no matter where he lands (remaining in Memphis or following to Lexington).

At this point, according to numerous reports, it looks as if John “Cal” Calipari, the head coach at Memphis, will be leaving the Tigers for a one of the most storied  programs in the NCAA, the University of Kentucky. The traditional SEC powerhouse fired Billy Gillispie after just two years at the helm and after Florida Head Coach Billy Donovan said he wanted to remain in Gainesville, UK swooped in and tried to land Coach Cal, and it appears it worked. Calipari has developed Memphis into one the top teams in the nation year in and year out, and even took his team to the NCAA Championship game last year, and came within a few seconds of winning.
