MemphisRoar is excited to announce that DeMarcus Cousins, the number one power-forward in the nation (according to rivals.com), has committed to play for the University of Memphis Tigers next year. Cousins, a 6′9″ 250 lbs power forward, is a huge addition to an already stellar recruiting class for the Tigers.

Dan Wolken, of the Commercial Appeal, was the first to break the news this morning on his blog (www.thememphisedge.com). From his article, Cousins’ mother had this to say:

“Just basically, he came and looked at the school and he’s always had an interest in Memphis,” his mother, Monique Cousins, said. ”So we talked, we sat at the table and had a meeting. Everyone was there and he and the family made the decision that he was ready to commit.”

The Tigers now legitimately have the best recruiting class in the nation right now. Memphis  has  letters of intent from the nation’s best shooting guard (#1 player in the nation, according to espn.com) Xavier Henry, a top-50 shooting guard Nolan Dennis, and two of the best junior college players Darnell Dodson (small forward) and Will Coleman (power forward).

The staff is now focusing on the point guard position, pushing hard for John Wall of Raleigh, NC.  They are also keeping their eyes on Eric Bledsoe.  Wall has indicated that he will not announce until April.

MemphisRoar is continuing to try to reach Cousins about his recent visit and commitment. Stay tuned for more.
