Memphis Roar has a great group of fans that follow the Tigers. We have another nice contribution from one of Memphis Roar’s guest contributors, Mark Wesley. Mark was able to spend a few minutes talking to Memphis Tiger commit, Bakari Trotter. Trotter is a standout wide receiver from Horn Lake, MS.

Local recruiting is important to any program. This could not be truer with the University of Memphis considering it already has two verbal commits from Shelby-Metro high schools. Memphis Roar had the opportunity to speak with the first public verbal commitment of the 2010 class for the Tigers, Horn Lake High Schools’ standout WR, Bakari Trotter.

MR: How does it feel to be a future tiger?

BT: It feels great. My family is season ticket holders. I have loved the tigers my whole life. I’ve been going to Memphis football games since I was ten.

MR: Besides Memphis, what other schools did you consider or where showing you interest?

BT: Alabama, USM, UT-Chatt, Alcorn State, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State.

MR: Who on the Memphis Staff recruited you?

BT: For the most part, it was Coach Jack Curtis and Coach Clay Helton. Both of them were really nice and laid back. They told me the plans they had for me and how they would use me in the offense.

MR: How solid is your commitment to the Tigers?

BT: My commitment is very solid. I don’t even look at the mail from other schools. I let my mom do that. I love the University of Memphis so much my bedroom is painted blue and grey for the tigers.

MR: What would you say are your strengths?

BT: I think my strengths are my ability to block defensive backs. I am really good at going up for the ball. I also have great speed.

MR: What are your measurements?

BT: 6’4 and 195lbs and I ran a 4.45 forty.

MR: What would you say are your strengths?

BT: I think my strengths are my ability to block defensive backs. I am really good at going up for the ball. I also have great speed.

MR: What have your coaches told you that you need to work on?

BT: They told me that I need to work on my blocking in the running game. They are also on me about running better and crisper routes.

MR: Is Memphis recruiting any of your teammates?

BT: Yeah, They just started recruiting Cameron Harris. He mainly plays defensive back. He’s a senior. He’s about 5’11 and 175lbs.

MR: What were your stats from the game on Friday with Charleston?

BT: I had one rush for fifteen yards and one reception for ten. They had me double and triple covered. They know we are mainly a running team, so if anybody is going to catch the ball they knew it would be me. They really did their homework on us. They showed me a lot of respect in that game.

MR: What will you bring to the Memphis Football program?

BT: I think I bring a lot of height for the position. I think I also bring toughness and leadership.

MR: Who is your favorite Pro Football Player?

BT: I would have to say Chad (Ocho Cinco) Johnson, and Jerry Rice. My dad actually played college football with Jerry Rice at Mississippi Valley State University.  My dad was a safety/receiver.

MR: What is your favorite class in school?

BT: I would have to say English.

MR: Who is your favorite Music artist?

BT: It’s probably Yo Gotti.
