Tharpe, who stands at 5′11″ and 175 pounds, is currently getting looks from Memphis, Massachusetts, Central Florida, Troy, and Tennessee State along with others. In Second Year, Shaw Shines

BilliesMonticello High School in Arkansas currently stands at 8-and-0 in the Southeastern Division of Region 5A. Holding their opponents to an average of twelve points per game, the Billies specialty is their defense. Helping lead the way is senior defensive back Ryan Shaw.

 

Standing at 6′1″ and 195-pounds, Shaw ran a 4.46 fourty-yard dash this past summer. Shaw uses speed well, excelling as a coverage/outside linebacker, but also spends time at running back, receiver and safety. Playing basketball as well (with a career high last season of 30 points in one game), Shaw is simply an athlete.

poll_graphicAlthough it was not unanimous, the opening ESPN/USA Today Top 25 has Kansas as the number one team in that nation by a hefty margin. Despite pre-season distractions, it is apparent that the world of college basketball agrees that The Jayhawks have a team built for the top spot.

 

Michigan State, which finished as the runner-up in the 2009 NCAA tournament, starts the 2009-10 campaign second in the poll.

jamie_benderJamie Bender a 5′11″, 200 lb. hard-hitting safety from Jones Community College in Ellisville, MS has given a verbal committment to Memphis. Bender is originally from Raleigh, MS choose Memphis over UAB. This makes the second year in a row that the Tigers have received a committment from Jones Community College. Last year Akeem Davis, also a defensive back from Jones committed to Memphis. Brandon McDonald, former Tiger and current Cleveland Browns defensive back also went to Jones.

This past weekend, 18,000-plus sat in the FedEx Forum to take part in the annual event Memphis Madness. Of those 18,000, 2010 PF Hippolyte Tsafack got a front-row seat to take in the festivites. Now that the 6′8″ 230-pound man-child is back in Virginia at The Miller School, Memphis Roar took a moment to catch up with his AAU coach Jim Hart, head coach of the Albany City Rocks.
