The University of Memphis football team is looking to bounce back on Saturday against the University of Texas at El Paso. Not only is this an important game for the Tigers, tomorrow’s game is also Homecoming for the University of Memphis. Hoping for a good crowd Saturday night, the Tigers have been preparing all week for a UTEP team that should provide a good match-up.
The Tigers (1-4 overall, 0-2 CUSA) take on the Miners (2-3 overall, 1-0 CUSA) for only the third time in school history. With the game time set for 7PM CST, the Tigers will look to get their first CUSA win of the year tomorrow night. Although some fans have already given up hope on a CUSA championship this year, the Tigers still have time to turn things around, but a victory tomorrow night is crucial.
According to the Commercial Appeal, Memphis quarterback Arkelon Hall called together a players only meeting earlier this week in order to refocus on the season and hopefully get things back on the right track (LINK). This meeting can only be seen as a positive for the program, and hopefully it produced some much needed unity for the football team.

One of the main keys to this game will be quarterback play. The Miners, with quarterback Trevor Vittatoe and running back Donald Buckram, posses a lot of weapons on offense that will be hard to contain. If Buckram is able to dominate the running game, things could get ugly for the Tigers as Vittatoe thrives when Buckram performs well.
For Memphis, quarterback Tyler Bass has offered good quarterback play after a shaky start to the season. Look for the Memphis quarterback to target stud wide receivers Duke Calhoun and Carlos Singleton throughout the game. Curtis Steele, who came back against UCF after sustaining a bone bruise on his knee, will need a powerful performance Saturday night. If the Tigers can limit turnovers and contain the UTEP offense from dominating possession time, the Tigers have a good shot at obtaining their first CUSA victory of the year and getting back in contention to fight for the CUSA championship.
