During almost any University of Memphis home game at the FedEx Forum, you can look behind the Tigers’ bench and see a bevy of local prep student athletes. Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford, Tarik Black, Adonis Thomas, Nino Johnson, Jarnell Stokes and others have all made multiple appearances this season. This afternoon, a look behind the bench will have you spotting prep-stars from out of state as well.
2011 G Trevor Lacey
2011 combo guard Trevor Lacey from Butler High School (Huntsville, AL) will be in the house to watch the Tigers take on the #13 Gonzaga Bulldogs. Making the trip to Memphis alongside Lacey is 2012 PG Justin Pride, the PG for Butler. This is Lacey’s second time in Memphis this season. He visited back in October for Memphis Madness. The Memphis staff also made their way to Birmingham, AL to watch Lacey and Pride play in the T-Mobile Invitational in late December.
Pride is an undersized jitterbug point guard who gets into the lane really well. His jump shot has a little bit of a hitch and needs some work, but he does most of his damage in transition or by breaking his man down in the half-court.
Scouting Lacey: The 6′4″ Lacey moves constantly without the ball, plays extremely well out of the pick-and-roll, is highly effective passing the ball out of a double team and has an all-around high basketball IQ. In the end, the number one thing to say for Trevor Lacey is that he just knows how to win.
