Your 2009-2010 University of Memphis Pom Squad
Pre-game, time-outs, half time and any other spare second found in most of the University of Memphis athletic events are jazzed up with the help of the Spirit Squads. If you attend games, you cannot miss them. Of these squads, the pom pon squad soaks up a good bit of the attention. Knowing their faces is one thing; knowing their names, backgrounds and goals is another. So, it is in that spirit, pun intended, that Memphis Roar is bringing you a series introducing you to each of the members of the University of Memphis pom squad.
The Memphis pom squad has totalled 12 National Titles over the last 25 years, making its case as one of the best dance teams in the country. Those titles include the most recent one from the 2008 National Dance Team Hip-Hop Championship (other National Titles are from 1986-94, 2000, 2007, and 2008).
This year at Nationals, the Memphis pom squad had their best overall performance ever, even though they did not come away with a National Title. Placing second in both main competitions, they fell in the Hip-Hop category by 2 points to LSU and the Pom category by 9 points to Minnesota.
Over the next few weeks, Memphis Roar will be introducing the members of the 2009-2010 pom squad one by one, letting you in on some of the things outside of dance that drive these young ladies.
