Starting with the River City Showdown on Thursday, July 8th in Memphis, TN, 2011 center Ryan Rhoomes will now be playing his 2010 summer basketball with the Memphis Magic Elite. Coached by Eric “Cowboy” Robinson, the Memphis Magic Elite add Rhoomes to a stacked front-line of Nino Johnson (6′8″ 2011 PF – Memphis, TN) and Marvin Williams (6′7″ 2011 PF – Memphis, TN).
According to sources, Rhoomes is set to arrive in Memphis on Wednesday afternoon. Playing this past season at Benjamin Cardozo High School, Rhoomes is a 6-foot-8 220-pound post with tremendous upside who has seen his stock sky-rocket in the past 10 months.
Rhoomes won the co-MVP in the Jordan Brand Classic Regional Game at Madison Square Garden, which was played prior to the Jordan Brand All American game. In that game, Rhoomes scored 26 points, hitting 12 of 15 from the floor, and pulling in 10 rebounds.
Rhoomes also garnered MVP honors at the iS8 Nike Spring Classic after scoring 12 points to lead the New York Panthers to an 82-80 victory over New Heights. In both of those games, he flashed the game he has become known for; being an athletic big man who runs the floor well and is adept at doing work around the rim with offensive rebounds.
Rhoomes’ mother, Aretha Rhoomes, is in charge of his recruitment. Originally a part of the 2010 class, Rhoomes came to Cardozo from Middletown South High School, where it is said that he did not have many opportunities to be pushed and grow as a player and person.
Ms. Rhoomes wanted her son to reclassify in order to work on himself, his grades, and to continue developing his game. Rhoomes has only played basketball since eighth grade and will not turn 18 year old until September.
According to his mother, she has had interest from Virginia, Temple, Marquette, West Virginia, Georgia Tech, Memphis, Kentucky, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Louisville and Colorado.
The 6-foot-8 Rhoomes will take the floor with the Memphis Magic Elite for the first time at 7:00pm on Thursday night at Ridgeway Baptist Church for the River City Showdown. For more information and game times, visits BEAC’s website.
