The 2012 McDonald’s All-American rosters were announced this afternoon on ESPN and 6-foot-8 University of Memphis signee Shaq Goodwin made the list. The game will be played on March 28th (8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN) at the United Center in Chicago.

“I’m really excited and glad that I get a chance to play with some of the best players in the nation,” Goodwin said about the honor. “I just want to be thankful that I got there and play my heart out for the Memphis fans.”

Goodwin is a versatile power-forward that possesses excellent rebounding ability and great hands down-low. He runs the floor hard and has developed his game away from the basket, giving him the ability to knock down 18-20 foot set shots. He will be used primarily in the 4 spot on a college team, but could handle the 5 in some circumstances due to his rebounding capabilities.

“I know I’ve got to show up and show out because everyone in Atlanta and Memphis will be watching. At the end of the day, I’ve just got to go out there to play my game and have fun.”

Goodwin is now the fourth McDonald’s All-American for Memphis and Josh Pastner in the last three years (2010: Joe Jackson and Jelan Kendrick; 2011: Adonis Thomas). He will be teamed up with currently unsigned center Tony Parker. Parker (Miller Grove HS) and Goodwin (Southwest DeKalb HS) are used to being crosstown rivals in Atlanta, but will anchor the post for the East team.

“I’ve never really played with [Tony] before besides a few camps, but I think we are going to dominate. It should be fun,” said Goodwin.

Goodwin had some other interesting things to say about and to Tony Parker. Find out what he said here (premium).
