Cameron Golden, a 5-foot-11 guard from Ridgeway High School in Memphis, Tn, committed to former UAB coach Mike Davis earlier this year and has been uncertain about his status with new UAB head coach Jerod Haase. Earlier today on Twitter, we reported that – according to Memphis Magic Elite head coach Eric “Cowboy” Robinson – Cameron Golden decommitted from UAB. Here is some clarification on the situation.

Earlier this morning, Robinson said, “Cameron decommitted from UAB. He hasn’t really heard from the new UAB staff. He’s hearing from Jacksonville [University], UMASS, Tennessee, and Arkansas State.”

Robinson went on to explain that there was uncertainty if Coach Haase was going to honor the original UAB offer to Golden.

Here is the situation stands as of this afternoon, though. Golden said that Robinson is not accurate in saying that he has decommitted. Golden maintains that, as of today, he is still committed to the Blazers.

While he may still be committed, the senior guard is open to other schools and is currently on an official visit to Jacksonville University in Florida.

Following up with Coach Robinson after speaking with Golden, Robinson said, “Cameron just told me that [Coach Haase] is coming to Memphis to offer him sometime in the near future. We had basically washed them off, but he apparently reached out to him the other day.”

It appears that, if UAB honors the offer, Cameron Golden will honor his commitment. Until then, Golden will be soaking up some sunshine on an all-expense paid trip to Jacksonville, Fl.

UPDATE

April 15th – According to Golden, he met with the UAB staff this afternoon and they decided to honor the offer that was extended by the previous staff. Including Golden, the Blazers had three guard commitments for the 2012 class, the other two being Chis Jones (Briarcrest Christian | Memphis, Tenn) and Jerome Harris (Olive-Harvey College | Chicago, Ill). Both Jones and Harris have reneged on their commitments since Jerod Haase was named UAB’s new head coach.

Part of the meeting included a review of Golden’s transcripts and SAT score. Because the Blazers honored their commitment, Golden has decided to remain committed to Coach Haase at the moment and will evaluate his situation with the Blazers in the coming days.

April 18th – Cameron Golden just texted to confirm that he has decided to officially decommit from UAB.

“I decommitted. They offered but I decided to decommit,” Golden said. “[Coach Haase] never came to see me, so it made me question whether or not they really wanted me.”
