In the Bigs Spotlight: Far from Home

huntAfter their collegiate careers, some players are given the opportunity to play professional basketball in the NBA.  Other players who are not drafted may enter the NBA Development League with the hopes of grabbing the league’s attention while simultaneously honing their skills.

 

Another route that some may take in their careers is joining an overseas basketball league in order to continue their ambitions of playing basketball for a living.  For former Tigers Jeremy Hunt, Robert Dozier, Shawn Taggart, and Chris Massie, this was the route that was traveled, taking them far from home. KempDoneal Mack walked to center court, dropped to his knees, kissed the Tiger logo, and brought tears to the eyes of Tiger Nation. For Doneal Mack and Willie Kemp, the Tigers’ 75-53 routing of Tulsa in the Forum on Saturday was a fairy-tale ending to a memorable senior day.

 

“It was a spur of the moment thing,” Doneal Mack said of kissing the M in the center of the floor. “I felt like that was my way of saying thank you to the whole city, the program, the fans, everyone that was there for me the last four years.”

trevor_lacey2011 combo guard Trevor Lacey from Butler High School (Huntsville, AL) got some good news recently. He deserved a break, no pun intended.

 

A few weeks back, Lacey sustained a knee injury during the opening seconds of the first overtime period against Lee High School in the final of the Area 16 tournament for Alabama. Initial word was that it was a ligament tear, possibly an ACL.

“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” will build a new home for former Tiger Jeremy Williams, football coach at Greenville High School, and his family. Williams, who played football at Kendrick High in Columbus, suffers from ALS, a disease of the nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord that controls voluntary muscle movements. The condition is also often called Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
