Part of New Weekday Local Programming Strategy

 

Commercial Appeal sports columnist Geoff Calkins has signed on to host a new weekly television program on WKNO. Sports Files with Geoff Calkins, which will air Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m. beginning September 7 on Channel 10, will be part of the new local programming initiative, ‘KNO Tonite. The premiere episode on September 7 will feature Memphis Tigers Basketball Coach Josh Pastner.

Unity Day offers positive opportunities

WHAT: National Foundation for Transplants presents Unity Day in honor of Maxine Kemp

WHEN: This Saturday, August 28th, 2010 from 11:00am ’til 1:30pm

WHERE: south-side of Audubon Park at Park and Goodlett; parking at Audubon Park Baptist Church

WHO: Anyone and everyone. The event is open to the public and is pet-friendly.

 

Turn on the news most nights and the stories are depressing. Drugs? Check. Violence? Check. Corruption? Check. While this is not unique to Memphis, the city’s infamy speaks for itself.

 

Tigers’ fans experienced this reality a few weeks back on July 28th when Lorenzen Wright was found in a wooded area, shot to death. The negativity abounds. To be matter-of-fact, it is up to the people of Memphis to change that. This Saturday — August 28th, 2010 at 11:00am — Unity Day presents a great opportunity to shift the focus.

Barton Cleared; Kendrick to Return

Memphis fans can breathe a sigh of relief tonight as freshman Will Barton has officially been cleared to play for the 2010-11 season. As first reported by Brooks Hansen on Friday afternoon, the NCAA has reversed its ruling and will allow the highly touted guard from Baltimore, Maryland, to rejoin the team.
