Rated as ESPN Scouts, Inc.'s #6 player in the 2012 class, Stokes (32) is turning heads on a national level.

Planted right in the heart of Memphis, Central High School is home to one of the worst-kept secrets in all of prep basketball – Jarnell Stokes. As only a sophomore, the 6′8″ 240-pound sophomore burst onto the scene last summer and has continued to garner praise throughout the Central Warriors’ season.

 

Stokes was recently named as the #6 overall player in ESPN Scouts, Inc.’s Terrific 25 for 2012. Currently sitting at 20-3 overall and second in their district), Central has been paced by Stokes’ impressive stat-line: 14 points, 12 rebounds, and 3 blocks per game. Finishing up his sophomore season, Stokes knows that he is no secret, getting everyone’s best shot every time out.

During almost any University of Memphis home game at the FedEx Forum, you can look behind the Tigers’ bench and see a bevy of local prep student athletes. Joe Jackson, Chris Crawford, Tarik Black, Adonis Thomas, Nino Johnson, Jarnell Stokes and others have all made multiple appearances this season. This afternoon, a look behind the bench will have you spotting prep-stars from out of state as well.

Working toward another Kansas 6-A State Championship has been a long process for the #4 ranked player in the ESPNU Terrific 25, Perry Ellis. Last season, the name was all that was known about the 6′8″, 235 pound swing forward/power forward from Wichita. The hype surrounding the freshman phenom was large, but it left many questioning if Ellis could indeed live up to the hype. Those questions where quickly answered once he took the court and showed everyone why he could be the most talked about Kansas high school basketball player since another Wichita native, Korleone Young.

pe_usa_blocking_outComing off of last weekend’s Team USA Fall Mini Camp in Colorado Springs, CO, 6’8” sophomore from Wichita, KS Perry Ellis is on the road again this weekend. Ellis, his mom Fonda and his dad will pack up the car on Friday morning and head to Memphis, TN for Memphis Madness.

 

For the Ellis family, this is far from the first time they’ve made this trip. Ellis’ older sister, Savannah, is currently a junior of the women’s basketball, which has been the cause of several visits to the University of Memphis campus over the past two years.
