He's only 187 lbs, so i guess the question is will he lose quickness and speed if he puts on the 15 lbs he needs to survive D1 carries.

I wouldn't underestimate the durablility of a RB that is 190lbs with 4.5 speed.

Weight training combined with plyometrics and isometric exercises with resistance bands has proven to be more than helpful at increasing acceleration, quickness and speed. I think we have a very good strength coach that should help prevent losing anything but rather I think our players should see gains in all the areas.

One name that comes to mind is Dexter McCluster 5-8 170lbs, went in the 2nd round NFL draft I think.
