What is going on? It seems like we get a couple of commits and a decommit.

Recruiting is a tough business. It seems pretty cutthroat and we have a lot of schools around us that will use negative recruiting tactics. We have an uphill struggle until Larry gets things going.
That being said. I am encouraged with the rating of the recruits we have and the rating of the recruits we obtain to replace the ones we lose.
We will see on signing day how things work out. It will take a couple of more years to get this thing going.

Yep, that's why silent verbals are good. If they don't know where the kid is actually going, they don't which school to negatively recruit against. If anyone here has ever been in sales, they understand negative recruiting, it's the same as negative selling.

We have quite a few commits that have not been mention because we are waiting on other players to decide if Memphis will be their home.
Thanks to Mike Slive's Nutt Rule the SEC can't signed them all. Coach Porter is good and we will get our share. I agree with Southernblue, once the perception is changed the players will commit without the SEC as their first choice. We will become the place to be rather than the alternative school.
Southernblue, we are allowed 85 scholarship players at any given time but I am not sure of how many we have on scholarship now. The mid term players will count against last year's recruits and the players who did not show up or left. I think the number maybe 5 or 6 players that will not count against this class(2011). This is just a guess but I think we may sign a total of 27 to 28 players. I think you are not allowed to sign over thirty players a year.

He signed with Vandy. SEC will win out on CUSA 90% of the time. Can't blame the kid!

Wake up until you realize that Vandy is a terrible program and always will be your not ready to build the Tiger program. Remember Pancoast?

The only thing I will say is a free Vandy education is a pretty dang good deal...esp if the NFL is not in your future.

Vandy can sell three things; great education, the SEC, and Nashville. Unfortunately, they are considered a better program than Memphis right now, mainly because they are in the BCS.

Not sure Nashville is a big sell to HS kids, but the education and SEC are. Vandy is a different program and hard to compare to Memphis. They don't seem to be putting any more guys in the NFL than we are. And their record is typically comparable. They're so different from Memphis AND especially the rest of the SEC because of the value of the education. They should win most of the high academic athletes. With other guys, it's going to be an individual thing - but I don't think it's a given that Vandy is a better fb program than Memphis.

The Vandy vs Uof M issue is like the RPI vs UofMaine for hockey. There just is no comparing the two, education wise.

The Bears have 4 guys from Vandy on their roster, 3 of whom start, and 1 who probably should be...
A degree from Vandy is pretty hard to top.

Everyone agrees the Vandy degree tops Memphis. It also tops everyone in the SEC. But their program is no where near the level of other SEC schools. And I think we can win our share of battles with Vandy for recruits. Of course, it comes back to the individual and CLP evaluating the prospect for the right fit at Memphis.
Vandy has 13 guys currently in the NFL. Memphis has 8. Slight edge to the Commodes, but nothing decisive.
McIntosh made the decision and maybe a good one for him. Bobby McCain thinks differently.
