Just heard from a hockey fan that I work with that Memphis has a new ice hockey team. Is this old news?

We used to have a club team from about 1992-1998. I played from 93-96 so I would love to see a Tiger Club Hockey team return. We played at the Coliseum after RiverKings games. My first year 93/94 we were undefeated (13-0) and think we finished 17th in club rankings that year. At one time we won 27 straight until the streak was snapped by Kentucky.
I think Ole Miss and Mississippi State now have club teams that play in the Desoto Civic Center.

I ran into a lady the other night here in Nashville who saw my Memphis sweatshirt and she said her son had gone down to Memphis to play on the hockey team but she didn't say if it was scholarship or not.

Probably no scholarship if it's club. When I played on the old club team in the 90's we paid for everything from our gear, jerseys, jackets, ice-time, and travel.

Yes the University of Memphis is bringing the club team back! We were just accepted by the university as a registered student organization and have elected a team board that has been meeting on a biweekly basis. Any questions or updates, see our fan Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/University-of-Memphis-Hockey-Team/15157435407 or contact Branden Parsons at bjprsons@memphis.edu or Josh Herbert at josh@riverkings.com.
