Porter has hired his OL coach in John McDonell from Central Michigan and DB coach from Tulsa Galen Scott. Something official should come out pretty soon as they should have been submitted for approval by the TBOR.

Commit List:

QB Andy Summerlin 6'5" 230 from Coffeyville (KS) Coffeyville C.C. – broke lots of records at Coffeyville. Originally from Florida. Will have three years left to play.

QB Ryan Williams 6'4" 220 from Miramar (FL) Miramar – highly rated coming out of high school because he played at a 2A school for three years that ran a run-heavy offense. Switched to 6A power Miramar and helped lead them to a state championship. Rated with a grade of 74 on ESPN and a labeled a late bloomer with the ability to run the spread offense effectively.

RB Frankie Jackson 5'9" 175 from Baton Rouge (LA) Capitol -5’9” 190lbs running back…strong Porter connection…reminds you of Curtis Steele…patient and has a good burst. From Baton Rouge. Also considered Southern Miss, Arizona State and LaTech.

WR Dejarrius Adams 6'2" 205 from Torrance (CA) El Camino C.C.
WR Jerry Anderson 6'5" 200 from Memphis (TN) Houston
WR Dramon Grady 6'6" 200 from Deland (FL) Deland

WR Sean Farr 6'2" 180 from Chatham (VA) Hargrave Military Academy – Originally committed to Louisville and considered Maryland, Temple and Virginia. From Baltimore, MD and is friends with Will Barton.

DT D'Angelo McCray 6'4" 325 from Coffeyville (KS) Coffeyville C.C.

DT Brandon Ivory 6'3 330 from Memphis (TN) East- Big-time underrated Memphis kid with top-tier agility and speed for his size and position. Was beginning to be recruited by some big SEC schools. May be looked at to move to the offensive line. Big pancake guy that demands a double team, similar to Terrance Cody for Bama.

OG Johnnie Farms 6’3” 280lbs – originally committed to UNC. He is a big-time OL. Good quickness. Bulldozer type of guy. 3 star on ESPN. Grade of 78.

LB Alphonso Bruton 6'2" 225 from Torrance (CA) El Camino C.C.

What to look for?

Highly rated 4* Todd Chandler (ESPNU Top 150, grade of 81, #67 player overall, #7 defensive tackle) defensive tackle from Florida visiting this weekend. Would be a HUGE get. Committed to Miami, then switched to South Florida. Really seems strongest against the run. Has the tools to get into the backfield and pressure the quarterback. Louisville, Michigan, Notre Dame, Syracuse, South Florida, Miami…all teams that want him.

Potential WR transfer from Miami named Kendall Thompkins. He is a 5'10 165 WR with 4.5 speed. He was a redshirt freshman this past season. He was being asked to move over to defensive back as they have a logjam of receivers. He may visit this weekend, he's been in contact with Porter. I think Louisville is another possible destination. He is friends with Todd Chandler, played at the same high school as Chandler, Miami Nothwestern High School.

OT Eric Lawson, who is down in Olive Branch, was committed to Texas Tech, 6’6” 320. Opened things back up and Memphis is in there. May be visiting next week. Grade = 74. Two-star. Lawson has the size for the offensive guard position at the major level of competition. Flashes of athleticism, balance and playing strength both in the run and passing game.

Keishon Ship – starting tail back at Olive Branch and also played DB/Safety- he is a beast. Top 50 level running back. Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Georgia, Ole Miss, LSU…all on the kid.

Keiwone Malone from Mitchell HS in Memphis - may be visiting this weekend - it would give you a second outside receiver that is fast and can give you that speed that you need to run the spread. Right now, Jermaine McKenzie will be available and will help but there isn’t a whole lot of depth there. You need playmakers out there on the edge and Malone would give you that.

Keith McBride from MUS supposedly visited last weekend but have had no confirmation yet. Don't look for him to end up a Tiger.

Tevin Drake from Florida – 3 star – grade of 75 – South Floida, UCF and other involved – averaged 7.2 yards per carry. Drake is a strong, downhill back with carry-the-load type qualities when projecting for the next level. Really well-built, durable and put-together. Shows great urgency out of his stance. Attacks the line of scrimmage, hitting the holes just as they open.

Can Memphis steal one from Texas Tech again with Fred Harvey? Decommitted from TT and now down to Memphis and Louisville.

IMPACT FROM KIFFIN?
They didn’t have any big local commitments, so there won’t be any guys in the city that we will be able to pick off. But, there may be opportunities in Georgia and other areas that had connections to Porter while he was at LSU.

ESPN and Rivals show him still committed. His parents have season tickets to Memphis.
Only Scout shows different. But they only show 7 committments.

Last thing I heard about Lindsey is that he cant make the grades and is going to have to ply his wares at the NFL combine in the spring and hope e gets drafted or goes to Europe.

Do you think we will get any recruits from hiring the Corners coach at Texas Tech?

I wish some of these kids would value their grades somewhat as much as their stats- ok off the soapbox

There is a nice picture of Todd Chandler on the ESPN recruiting front page, but it connects him to USF. I bet Larry gets him.

Bryan-- I know your site was having some issues showing all the players who are committed (I think you were missing Shelton, Rhodes, and Gaither Madison)-- with those additional three star players it looks like Memphis is moving up the CUSA ranking pretty quickly after being pretty far behind...I know there is a lot that is yet to be determined and landing a couple of the 4 star guys we are in on would shake things up dramatically, but what are your thoughts on where we could realistically end up? (in conf and overall)

Looks like 3rd in CUSA would be a reasonable goal at this point with Southern Miss and Houston having such a lead...

Don't discount Southern Miss. They will be a contender most years in this league and they are in our division. Luckily with the rotating schedule of the C-USA West teams, we will not ever play SMU and Houston in the same year during the regular schedule. We play Houston, UTEP, and Tulsa again this next season then SMU, Tulane, and Rice rotate in their place for the 2011 and 2012 seasons.

Why does Rivals not have Corey Shelton commited to Memphis anymore?
