Had the good fortune to be at The Masters yesterday for the practice round. You can imagine my surprise as I sat there at Amen Corner and I see one of the amateurs playing in this year's tournament stroll up to the 12th tee box with his caddie carrying a Memphis Tigers golf bag! Turns out it was Brad Benjamin - a 2009 U of M grad and CUSA player of the year.
I was about 10 rows back sitting in the grass and let out a big ole "Go Tigers!" I think everyone around me thought I was crazy because they must've though I confused the guy for Tiger. But Brad heard me, turned around to see who said it. I kinda stood up a little and he have me a little fist pump as if to return the sentiment. It was awesome!!
Be sure to follow him this week. Maybe he can be the low amateur for the week and get a nice trophy at the awards ceremony on Sunday. His bio on the Masters web site can be found here . . .
