I love all things Tiger related, but do not have the time to follow all the recruiting the football program has done, is in on and is likely to close. Can someone who has been keeping up with recruiting give me a update with how Porter and staff have done so far compared to the West years?
Thanks!

I would say an A so far considering the condition our program is in and the competition from the SEC teams. If he can load up on 3 star recruits and throw in a few 4 stars every now and then, he will be recruiting on the same level as Boise State. Then, you have to coach them up.

Well... we've had to start what... 10 freshmen this year? To be able to do that speaks volumns to me.

:agree: Based on the production of the guys he has already brought in I would say A+!

No doubt. If he can bring in 10 freshman good enough to beat out the returning players, that's definitely an upgrade.

I would say B+ and that is not because of anything he has done wrong but there is always room for improvement which I think will come in time. I see no reason why we can't someday compete for the 4 and 5 star athletes on a regular basis. When that day arrives I will then give him A+.
Culture changes = attitude changes = winning. The winning brings in dollars that create growth and reputations that kids want and believe in. Our time is coming.

I agree with you if we get in a BCS conference. I just don't see us signing any 5 star recruits or very many 4 star recruits until then. Competing with the SEC in recruiting now is a very difficult hurdle to overcome with us being in a crap conference.

Rather than focus on 4's and 5's right now, player evaluation is the key. There are so many under-ranked guys in fb. If you find these guys and evaluate properly, you can build a winner. So far I have to say CLP has an A+ in evaluation of under-ranked players. Williams is a great example at QB. He could easily have moved into the 4* category. CLP evaluated properly and got on him before the BCS guys figured it out. Rhodes is going to be a very good RB. Washington and Ballantine are some of the best secondary guys we have already. Jones and Farms look like studs out there - hard to believe they are frosh.
Also, CLP is proving to be resourceful. He found a fantastic punter out of Australia in Hornsey. And Rehrer is a 24 year old Juco summer pickup from Arizona who has already proven his value as a possession WR.

Great post. I agree. Also, with Porter's resources we should be able to get some good transfers in the future.

Coach Peterson- "We're always looking for the best players we can get our hands on and then it just comes down to how much interest they have on us," Petersen said. "That's a two-way street and a process, no matter where you're at, that you always go through."

I agree with you, evaluation is the key but having the best of the evaluated is just much more easier on any head coach. Yet, these players weather they're 4 or 5 stars players or 2-3 star players still must reciprocate their interest in the prospective school.
There are a 120 Div I schools that play football. Boise St draw their talent from a pool of players that is ranked among the top three states in football. We don't have that luxury or interest at present. I do believe we have the right man for the job the key will be in his ability to sustain his will over a period time. Changing a culture is not easy but is doable with time.

Whatever happened to these 3 star recruits we were supposed to have for this yrs class? I only see half of them listed on the roster. Where's Todd Washington? He hasn't played in 2 months.

Is Farr coming next year? I seem to remember him having to reclassify.

I assume most of the recruits reclassified. Washington is the only one that really did anything besides Rhoades and of course Williams. Guess we'll be loaded next yr. lol

Williams, Washington, Rhodes, Ballentine, Hornsey, Rehrer, Corey Jones and 2 OL are Porter's recruits who have made significant contributions this year.

I thought Ballantine was a Tommy West recruit. I remember West and his staff actually got a commitment from him. I forgot about the punter, nice call! lol

Ballentine actually decommitted and had to be "re-recruited".

I don't know about 5-star recruits, but I do know that TCU, Utah and Boise State have done very well in non-BCS conferences. There is no reason we cannot do the same. What it takes is enough people who want it bad enough. I want it pretty damned bad. Waiting until the program "deserves" support does not cut it. We have got to suppress that mentaility.

People until the the little lady (Raines) and RC get behind this program we're not going anywhere.
I love my Tigers and support them in any winning or losing season just like everybody else but this
my friends will kill any program no matter what we do. Unless somebody with alot of pull gets involve.
LP can do the job if and only if he has the support!

Interesting to recall what happened to Alabama years ago when their alums and fans took the bull by the horns. Their program was at the bottom and an embarrassment to all. These same fans and alums organized, basically took over the program, and look at them today. We can do that as well but it will take alumni and fan support to make it happen.

I total agree with you on this. The alumni will have to get this started. If we can make this work for bb than why can't we make it work for fball.
How long can we sit here and let this happen. Tommy West told everybody what was wrong but we sorta have a short memory or kinda look the
other way! LP is not the problem here. It's the lack of leadership and that is the bottom line. Go LP BECAUSE I THINK YOUR DOING ALL YOU CAN
WITH THE LEMONS THAT YOU WERE GIVEN. A- is the grade that I would give LP. Because he didn't really have anything to begin with for a team.
He had some good players but that not a team.
