Which is why I began with the "no offense to you and tug" - not trying to offend, but every recruitable player, not just Mayo, is in a "big picture" situation until they sign an LOI.

I'm not sure why such a fuss is being made over Mayo (meaning the back and forth in the thread, not his abilities as a player)...he will either sign (be offered) by Memphis or somewhere else...right now, he may be speaking differently than Memphis...what makes him that much different than a lot of recruitable athletes?

Or is it mainly the perception it could make that a local guy Memphis wanted went somewhere else, particularly an SEC school?

Seems to be a lot of walking on eggshells over this player, much more than any player in recent memory.

I am pretty sure that tug knows that km13 knows what he is talking about, and as a result, that Chap does as well since he is echoing the same sentiment. I believe, and I could be wrong, that tug's point is that there is still a lot to play out and that, in the big scheme of things, that Mayo's current self-proclaimed leader may not end up in that same position because there are so many other variables in play.

In spite of what others may say on other message boards, I still do not believe a commitable offer has been made to Mayo from the Memphis staff. I have spoken with many people that would know and none of them think that it has been extended. So, with that said, that would have to be one of the first variables to work itself out. I think tug is saying, "Look at the big picture".
EXACTLY!!! Thanks for making it so clear.

Some people are NEW to this recruiting stuff. I have been around it for over 40 years.

Sometimes, a player will PUBLICLY say that so and so is the leader to prompt a reaction or action from the school that really is the leader. I didn't say that chap or km13 or anybody else didn't hear what they heard.

I'm just saying that you can't believe EVERYTHING that these kids say and you certainly can't REPEAT them.

    Let this play out.

    Let me refresh our memory.

Remember that people were ALL OVER the message boards saying that UTK was the leader for Chris Crawford. They said " he told me that they are his leader".

In addition, there were people who said UTK was the LEADER for Joe Jackson ( back in the summer) and lamenting the fact that we could lose him. They said that " Joe told me".

WELL, I don't need to remind everyone " How those situations played out".

Back in the day, I used to tell girls that " another fine woman" was willing to do YKW in order to get them off the stick. It always worked. These kids are good at BS and pimping. They know the game.

I ALSO said and I will say it again. UTK will NOT get a player out of Memphis that Josh REALLY wants. It ain't happening.

As far as I'm concerned the big picture is irrelevent to the simple question; which is, does Mayo have a favourite? The answer seems to be yes and the school seems to be UT. Can things change? Absolutely. Could there be some posturing on Mayo's side because he hasn't had an offer from us yet? Of course. Will our scholarship situation possibly dictate whether or not Mayo gets an offer? Possibly.

The bottom line is that the original response from Tug, IMO should not have been so harsh; should have mentioned the big picture possibly changing things and should have acknowleged that UT is his leader right now.

Whether he really likes UT, likes the colour orange, got a dog to pick UT's name out of a hat, had a seance and used a Ouija Board or whatever; UT seems to be his favourite right now. If people choose to not share this information, that is their right; but if someone is posting and they know this to be true; that's how it should come out.

Just my opinion and nothing more.

I agree that my responses can be harsh occasionally.

However, I don't apologize for it. I have a low tolerance for some stuff. It is who I am AND I am not going to change.

So, IF I hurt anyone's feelings, it isn't personal. Message boards allow us to verbally fornicate ( can I say that) with each other. I don't like silly sh.t.

Not saying its a done deal because I think if JP wants him then the fight is far from over.

I get the impression that Memphis may not be interested in Hill because of the questions on eligibility (plus maybe need) and our probation resulting from that other guy. Is this a legitimate issue?
Now that the Mayo Big Picture has been clarified (and it actually makes sense to me), what about Hill and my question?

It seems Tug and I mostly agree and we didn't even realize it. LOL

Memphis did offer one player from around here that went elsewhere, but I'm not sure how high a priority he was on coach's list. Other than that I agree with Tug that he will get most Memphis area players that he really wants.

Bottom line recruits lie to get attention from other schools. He might say UT is the leader to get Memphis to offer or to get another school that's recruiting him to offer(like what chris hill is doing). Its pointless to repeat what a recruit says because it holds little to no weight. IMO I don't think Mayo and memphis will happen but that's just my 2 cents.
