Commitment Stands Strong for Some; Blurry Line for Others
Finishing up the second open period for college coaches to scout, it seems as though the talk of the town is the unspoken “code of ethics” between college coaches, more specifically how that code of ethics is nowhere to be found. The recent decommitment of Josh Selby from the University of Tennessee was all the buzz at tournaments across the country, spurring speculation, innuendo and rumor to the highest degree. For years, the unspoken word between coaches was “don’t recruit a guy that has already verballed to another program.” Since the period in which a recruit can officially sign IS LIMITED, the periods prior have always been based off of a verbal, unofficial commitment that was honored based upon an ethical understanding.
Not anymore. Not in today’s landscape. The face of college recruiting, specifically basketball recruiting, is hideous. It makes even the unscrupulous coaches in college basketball cringe.
Barton Brothers Want Championship
MemphisRoar had the privilege to catch up with both Will and Antonio Barton on Friday night, just hours after committing to the University of Memphis. Although it will be another year until Will and Antonio suit up to play for the Tigers, both brothers displayed anxiousness and excitement about playing for Memphis in 2010. Here is what the two had to say about their decision:

Late Friday night MemphisRoar received word from several of its sources that both Will and Antonio Barton have given their verbal commitment to play for the University of Memphis Tigers. The Barton brothers, each highly sought after by many division one colleges, are both 2010 prospects and are in Memphis this weekend for the University of Memphis’ Elite Camp.
